It Ends With Us

This is probably the only book of Colleen Hoover that I love and hate at the same time. The book is amazing; the plot is fresh and unique, something I’ve never read before, and the ending is heartbreaking- the reason why I hate it. Well, hate is a strong word; maybe I just wished there was a different ending (I know people will disagree since the ending is logical and is just right, given the situation, but to each her own, right?)

The story is about Ryle and Lily; Ryle who do one-night stand and Lily who is on her quest for her Holy Grail, or One True Love. They established that they both wanted different things, but there is one thing that they have in common - they want each other so bad Ryle even begged on bendded knees (no kidding!). Then came Atlas, Lily’s first love. But as Ryle and Lily tried to work things out, (not really tried to work, since, as what Ryle said, things are easy between them), they discover that they have issues they need to face.

Lily is a strong woman. From the start until then end you can see just how strong her character is. She is fearless and loving, and she made the hardest decision there is - to let go of someone you love with all your heart.

Atlas is the type of person I want most (if not all) men to be. Someone who will fight and wait for her girl. He is too good to be true, and I wish that there are still men out there who can love a girl with a love so true and enduring and is silently and patiently waiting.

Ryle. Mmm, where do I start? I guess to cut it short, he is the reason why I wanted a different ending. I fell in love with Ryle’s character. I know he is a good guy, and though some of his actions cannot be justified, I know deep in his heart his love for Lily is strong and true. I cried when he cried, I felt his pain, and I wished there was something that can be done, something that could help him at least. Damn. His character is beautiful and tragic at the same time.

So why do I love and hate the book? I fell in love with Ryle first. Atlas is a good guy, but I gave my heart already to Ryle. Do you know the series The Vampire Diaries? Atlas is Stefan to Ryle’s Damon, only this time the first meeting was never erased from her memory. The impact of Ryle (to me at least) is deep that though I can see just how great Atlas is and how perfect partner he can be, I just can't let go of Ryle.

Now, for the main issue of the book, the ending is really how it should be, especially in real life. This book is an eye-opener; I wish this book can reach each and every girl out there. the lesson is something I want to share to as many people as possible.

What I learned from reading this? First, sometimes you have to let go of that one person that you love so much because you have to love yourself more.

And lastly, “There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.”
