There’s a reason why Travis is my first book boyfriend, and will always be on top (tied with Raphael, Guild Hunter Series).
I’ve never met (well, read, but all the same) a guy who loves so fearless and fierce. The moment he met Abby, it’s like everything just fall into place. They have chemistry that is either super mellow or way of charts – no in-between. They can be just two best friends, comfortable with each other, always bickering, or they can be two lovers with just fireworks all around them. Though I like Abby’s character, I love Travis more, flaws and all. And he knows he’s not perfect, though sometimes he’ll say otherwise.
“I know we’re fucked up, all right? I’m impulsive, and hot-tempered, and you get under my skin like no one else. You act like you hate me one minute, and then you need me the next. I never get anything right, and I don’t deserve you…but I fucking love you, Abby. I love you more than I’ve loved anyone or anything, ever. When you’re around, I don’t need booze, or money, or the fighting, or the one-night stands…all I need is you. You’re all I think about. You’re all I dream about. You’re all I want.”
Everytime he begs makes me swoon over him, no matter how many times I’ve read the story.
“Please don’t do this. I can’t stand feeling like this…it’s…it’s killin’ me,” he said, exhaling as if the air had been knocked out of him. “I’m done, Travis.”
He winced. “Don’t say that.”
“It’s over. Go home.”
His eyebrows pulled in. “You’re my home.”
This is probably one of the most heartbreaking lines he delivered:
I smiled to fight the tears. “Fifty bucks says you’ll be thanking me for this when you meet your future wife.”
Travis’s eyebrows pulled together as his face fell. “That’s an easy bet. The only woman I’d ever wanna marry just broke my heart.”
Can he be real?
Travis staggered backward, the hurt plainly displayed in his eyes.
“A toast!” he yelled. I flinched, turning just in time to see him climbing onto a chair, stealing a beer from the shocked Sig Tau brother closest to him. I glanced to America, who was watching Travis with a pained expression.
“To douchebags!” he said, gesturing to Brad. “And to girls that break your heart,” he bowed his head to me. His eyes lost focus. “And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to fall in love with her.”
If only I can give this a 10 over, 5, I will.
