Review: A Court of Wings and Ruin

Sarah J Maas – A Court of Wings and Ruin

I don’t know how those who read it before managed to stay calm and wait for the third book.

After the cliffhanger in the second book, I’ve wanted to know how Feyre could keep up being with Tamlin in his court. I used to like Tamlin, especially during the trials, for he struggled on not revealing anything despite the love of his life being tortured in front of him. Then the second book showed his other side; one that is too protective of Feyre that he ended up suffocating her, leading her to Rhysand’s arms. Then the last book showed that he was so willing to sell them out just to have Feyre back. I don’t know how to react on that; there are times in the third book that I pity him. He’s got all this emotions for Feyre but doesn’t know how to manage it, and in the end, he lost everything.

Rhysand, on the other hand, gave Feyre the one thing that she always wanted – choice. A choice to do what she wants, to be who she wants to be. It must’ve been a torture for him to let Feyre on her own, back in Spring Court, knowing that Feyre had been intimate with Tamlin before. It must be hard letting Feyre do those tasks, but can’t do anything about it, because he will not ever cage her.

Feyre – how brave and strong this mortal turned immortal is. She risked her life for the man she loved, then risked it again for her freedom, and risked it again for her mate and for the people, both faeries and humans. It is no wonder why Rhysand didn’t just marry her but instead made her a High Lady – she is a force to reckon.

I love the entire plot. The first part was nerve-cracking, because Feyre is literally in the enemy’s court, surrounded by more enemies. To do what she did without losing her cool and life, it was a great risk. The second plot is closer to her, since her sisters were in line. A sister who never really cared for her and a bubbly sister who lost her light, plus the inevitable, this part has all the elements. Then came the battle which you don’t know if they stood a chance or not.

Overall, this is a very addictive book. It made me ignore my friends and rush home just to finish the second book, and started reading the third book from 10 pm to 4 am, lol. The battle is epic, so is the romance, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to try reading a fantasy book.

Remember that you are a wolf. And you cannot be caged.
