Honestly, when I started reading I thought it will be such a drag. There were a lot of fancy words which I didn’t think was necessary. But I read the book blind – I did not read on the synopsis on Goodreads or the one sent by the author, so I had absolutely no idea what’s going to happen next. I had doubts with the book, especially when Mason’s character is introduced; I read a lot of books about rockstars or famous singers and even wrote a review recently, but this book did not disappoint.

Anyway, let’s talk about the book.
(Oh, I know it’s not counted but I love the book cover!)
So first, I like the characters. Well, I didn’t like Tegan at first, I thought she’s unreasonable for snapping at Mason like that, but as you read along the book you’ll realize that it’s her defense mechanism whenever she feels cornered or scared. And Mason – wow, he does have a way with words. I didn’t think that the characters would be able to deliver such deep lines but they did. (Well, they ARE song writers, what did I expect?)
Speaking of songs, when I first read the lyrics, I was torn between dropping the book and finding Dallas’ YouTube channel so I can listen to the songs, or continue reading because the scenes are getting better. (PS. I finished the book first; I am listening to the songs write now as I write the review. Now Playing: Lost)
Let’s talk about the plot. True, there are a lot of stories about a famous singer falling for a country girl while he’s on a retreat to find himself and will do everything to protect and save her. But usually they exist in a perfect world where the guy has a lot of connections and can afford to cut off from his record label, or has unlimited bank account. This one is different – it is more realistic. I don’t know if Mason was joking when he said bankrupt, but if it did happen, then at least I found a book where the famous rockstar or singer is not untouchable.
By the way, when I found out that it is not set in US, I try to imagine it is Emilie Clarke talking. I know this is not important, but I just want to add. :D
The pacing is perfect. Their love story is not rushed – it wasn’t the love at first sight I-love-you-forever/I-promise-you-the-moon-and-stars kind of story. Though Mason said he liked Tegan the moment he saw her, there was patience, a get to know you stage. They took their time, which is why the ending is justified.
They got back together in the end. I know, it’s not a shocker, most love stories end in happy ending. I wish there was an epilogue though. Like what happened in the end? Did Mason sign the contract? Did he still go on tour? Did Tegan drop out of college?

Overall, I love the book. I love how realistic it is. I love how it exceeded my expectation, how there are lines that surprised and touched me, how it seemed like a light romance but it’s deep. It didn’t need too much drama to an explosive story (the Madison thing wasn’t made into a big deal).
5 stars for me.

PS: Do try to watch and listen Dallas song on his YouTube channel.
