Existence

In the spirit of Halloween I decided to reread one of my faves, Existence, which is about Death falling in love. This is my go-to book whenever I’m scared because of a horror movie or a post I’ve read or my mind just thought of something creepy. There’s nothing more empowering than having a deadly hot singer who happens to be Death as a boyfriend. And though I’ve read this book for a hundred times, it still has the same effect on me.

Pagan must be really brave to be able to live until her senior high seeing souls everywhere. Like when she saw Dank, she acted like it was no big deal at first, until Dank spoke which is a first to her. And Dank, wow. I’m watching Supernatural Series and I tell you Dank is a refreshing version of Death. Their characters are fascinating and their falling in love was as steady and slow as it’s complicated.

I like the plot of the story. I’ve never read a book like it before. A vampire falling in love with a human? Yes, numerous of times; also a werewolf, an angel, and even an archangel. But Death itself? This is a first. So the plot is refreshing. And to have a you-live-I-die I-live-you-die moment? Usually it is cheesy, but here, it’s intense.

The pacing is good. It wasn’t rushed, though I think Pagan must’ve felt like getting whiplashed every day. It seems like she doesn’t know what she will be expecting the next day. But I can see how Dank was fascinated at first, then how the connection was made, and lastly, how they fell for each other. It was realistic(ish, for a love story), and it convinced me that they are really in love.

The ending – no comment. It ends with a cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers, even on books I’ve already read. On that note, I will be reading the next book. As expected, this turns into a Dank Marathon. Lol

Anyway, 5 stars for this book. :D
