This is actually my favorite paranormal new adult series. I admit, when I first read this I was shocked; I never expect such intense plot. I like reading about angels, and I read a lot of angel stories, but this is not like the others.

To give a little background, there is a Cadre of Ten which is composed of 10 Archangels, who divided the world among them. There may be less, but never more than 10 – which is one of the issues here on this book. There are angels who aged slower than humans, the younger angels usually stay in a place called Refuge which is one of their well-kept secrets from the humans and vampires. Yes, there are vampires on this book; apparently angels Make (yes, capital M) vampires (from humans), who has to serve 100 years of contract with whoever holds it. Then there are Guild Hunters; hunters who were hired by some angels and vampires of powers to hunt rogue vampires.
Archangel’s Heart is Raphael an Elena’s story. Raphael is a powerful and deadly Archangel who rules New York; he’s shaded, having lived for a thousand years (or more) witnessing hundreds of wars and deaths. Even his name evokes fear amongst the people in his territory. Elena is a guild hunter, fearless, and the only one who dared taunt and love the deadly Archangel. Their love story progressed from the previous books; they handle situations better now, less squabble more trust.
I also love the development of Aodhan’s character. He was this strong aloof and broken boy who is slowly trying to find himself again. The book shows another side of Aodhan, the funny side who can make jokes with Elena, while still keeping his silent mysterious aura.
The plot of this book is not like what I’ve imagined. I thought they’ll be focusing on Lijuan since that’s what’s left hanging on the last book, but they introduced new characters on this book, new enemies that they have to deal with.
I always loved the pace on all Guild Hunters books. There’s no rush, (though of course in the story they seemed to be in tight schedule) a lot of events will took place that will keep you distracted until the climax or the main plot will take place, and then before you know it, the book’s over. (But you will be satisfied; no cliffhangers, no “is that it?” moments)
So the ending; I can’t wait for the day (or the book) that there’s finally going to be a closure with the Lijuan situation. I mean, really – I don’t want this series to end, but I just want the Lijuan part to be over. But Elena has finally had something good happened to her family, so there’s that.
Perfect score for this book for me. :D
