Reread: November 23, 2016
I forgot how many times I’ve reread the series. Then after rereading the first book, I remembered 1 thing- the only thing I’m excited about on this book is Cage York.
Let's talk about characters.
Sadie is described as a naïve and innocent beautiful girl with pretty hair and blue eyes and long lashes. Yes, I have read books before with naïve heroine but Sadie seems to be more naïve than them. I don't know if her character is made to be really humble, or she's just to meek or blind to see that she's pretty. The part where Jax went to their house because they were going on a party and Jax praised her for being gorgeous but she's all “Yes I know I have good hair and eyes and all that but I'm not gorgeous”, which she keeps on reminding us, by the way, every time she receives praises, is kind of annoying.
Jax, on the other hand, is a teen rockstar who lived the teen rockstar life. Why I emphasized teen? Because his lines are as cheesy as what I've seen in that old Camp Rock movie. Not really swoon-worthy for me.
For the plot, well, it's the same old rockstar falling for a (super duper) naïve girl but their worlds are just too opposite for them to be together. It's the same old song we heard before. I guess the difference is that is a young adult book, so teens should find this romantic enough for their taste.
For the pacing of the story and their love, it seems kind of rushed. I saw no spark or connection, but then suddenly Jax is all about getting no know Sadi and professing his love, and Sadie is falling fast for him. For a while I though Sadie and Marcus would make a cute couple, with Jax being a challenge for their love.
The ending is good, though a bit cheesy for my taste, but then he’s a TEEN rockstar and she's in senior high school so I guess it's enough for them.
Overall I'm going to rate this 3 stars (based on my rating guidelines). The 50% chance that I’m going to reread this is when I'm going to do another series marathon and I'm in the mood to read it all.
