Juniper Smoke

This book I received as a Kindle book gift and I am so ecstatic. :)

It was lengthy, and it took my entire noon and afternoon, but no regrets. I love this book!

Characters

Juniper Mills was raised to hate men and frankly, with her situation at home, I don't think she even got the time for men. She's one of those cute nerdy historians who is also about history and family but not boys.

Then there's Kyle Paxton. This guy got my head spinning. At first I don't really get him - he seemed like a nerd himself, dropping a lot of numbers every now and then, but he also got an arrogant (in a hot way) side too, and could be cocky to be with. He is like Dr. Charlie Eppes (from the TV Series NUMB3RS) and Damon Salvatore (from the TV Series The Vampire Diaries combined). But lo and behold, our hot nerdy guy also has a dark side. He’s also a Christian Grey personified, complete with the NDA, rules and money to burn.

This was not what I expected!!

"Be in a relationship with me till the termination date.”

Plot

I believe I was already gushing about the unexpected turn of events. I really really thought he was just a hot rich guy with a weird calculator of a brain who's got family issues, but no, there's more. His year is divided into two, Summer and Winter, about 2 months more than Christian Grey’s terms, and (I’m not sure if this is real, or the ex-Winter girl lied about it to annoy Juniper) he also have 100-page book of rules.

If you are hesitant to buy this because you think you know what's going to happen next, I tell you, in the words of Ygritte (Game Of Thrones), You Know Nothing.

Pace

The pace is realistic. They had a moment when they first met, the attraction is there, and I could feel the tension building. Honestly, when they went to San Francisco, I was betting on them sleeping together their first night there. SPOILER ALERT they haven't slept yet, and Juniper must be anxious already.

(If you're wondering why I write about the pace, well for me the pace shows whether the author was able to convince me that the love is real and that it did happen, or if it was rushed, just for the sake of love story. In this case, yes I do believe that the feelings between them is real.)

Ending

The book that I got has both parts 1 and 2, and part 1 ended in a cliffhanger –sort of. I decided to stop reading (for now) since I've been reading from 11am to 4pm. (There goes my plan to study to prepare for my law subject tomorrow)

Anyway the ending promised something exciting to watch out for and based on the first book, I’m pretty sure the author will deliver.

Overall,

• The characters are fresh and exciting, and not the usual characters I was expecting

• The plot is captivating and intriguing you won’t be able to put the book down

• You’ll admire the author for writing such an amazing book because, not only is the love story realistic and convincing, there are also history facts every now and then. Like seriously, great research Sadia Ash

• The ending will make you want to go get the second book ASAP

This book deserves 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
