Apprentice
No book has ever made me doubt whether the main characters will end up together like this book. It was a whiplash; it was like riding a roller coaster blindfolded, not knowing which way it’s going to turn.
Ryiah was more driven than ever. She’s driven, yet stubborn; fierce, yet doubtful. She can’t seem to make up her mind between Ian and Darren. I know Darren could be a jerk sometimes, most of the time actually, but she’s the only one can’t see that she is all about Darren.
And Darren – wow, I know I like the guy, but there were a lot of times I want to punch him in the face.
All I could think of was, Who will Ryiah choose this time? Seriously, Ryiah? Is Ian really the right guy for her? Again, Ryiah? She chose Darren, but will they survive? Oh Darren, I love you, but I seriously want to kick you ass this time?
Yes, this book toyed with my emotions. But, I loved it still.
For all those moments where they can’t seem to make a choice between being together and being with someone else, there are those other moments that tugged my heart.
One, which almost brought me to tears, was when Ryiah hold Darren so he won’t sacrifice himself and Eve ended up the sacrificial lamb. Like, really Rachel? She was my top 1 favorite character, how could you? (Nope, still not crying, I just got something in my eye.) I read the prequel first, have known Darren before he was all that arrogant jerk, and Eve was the only person he knew he wouldn’t hurt. When Darren left to tell Eve’s father about what happened, that made me love him more – even when he pushed Ryiah away after that.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. Can’t say I loved it, with Eve gone and everything, but I can’t put the book down since chapter 1, but the twists are unpredictable, you wouldn’t know what’s going to hit next.
Definitely 5 stars.
