Review: Aura in Lalaland

When I read the blurb, the first thing I thought of is Alice in Wonderland, only Wonderland is set to Lalaland (or Hollywood). I thought it’s going to be for YA readers because of the plot, and that there’s going to be a lot of awkward moments; a teen trapped in an adult body and life like the movie 13 Going On 30. But, this book did not disappoint. There were moments during the first chapters which made me stop reading for a while, but things got better and better. The characters were interesting. Aura was able to adapt quickly even after she time-traveled. There were times when she was confused with things which is understandable; who wouldn’t if you suddenly woke up as a famous actress? But I can see that there’s character growth, from being sort of reckless to someone mature. I like how she handled Yvonne when she suddenly showed up. Jacksen makes me picture a young Jensen Ackles. There’s something in the way he and talk handle things that makes me think of Jensen’s character in the TV Show Supernatural. Wes is also an interesting character and I would like to know and read more about him. Plot The plot is very much like Alice in Wonderland, only she transported, not just on a different dimension, but on a different time as well. Although we are familiar with the plot, there are scenes in the book which are interesting, so I can assure readers that this won’t be a bore. Also, I can say that this is for NA readers too, as there is the time-jump element. The lead character matured with the way she thinks and you won’t be stuck listening to rants and thoughts of a teenager. Pace Well, I can’t say the pace is realistic, since there is a time-jump, but the sequence of events doesn’t seem rushed or forceful. The attraction between Aura and Jacksen is convincing enough to justify their whirlwind romance. Ending Before she met Jacksen, all I think of is how she can escape that world or dimension. After she met Jacksen, all I could think of is if there’s a way she could stay in that dimension! Do I have to say that I love the chemistry between the two? The ending isn’t what I was expecting, though it is what I was hoping it will be. Overall, I loved the book! I enjoyed it, I love the characters, I am amused by how Aura handled things, and I will certainly recommend it to my friends. Aura in Lalaland is the modern Alice in Wonderland, only this time you wouldn’t want to go back to reality. 5 stars.
