Review: Mark to Her Heart

Ashlea Rhodes – Mark to Her Heart

I have mixed thoughts on this book.

The characters were all interesting. The first hot scene was way too steamy I was expecting a lot of it to happen. The way it was written was so vivid it’s like I was actually there, feeling the chemistry between the two.

The plot isn’t new – I’m sure we have all read those one-night-stand stories where they can’t get enough of each other. For plots like this, what authors could do to make their work stand out is to make sure that the conversations and the scenes were intriguing enough. The first part of the book sure got me hooked.

Now why did I mention the first part? For those who have read some of my reviews you might have read that I am very particular with the pacing of the story. The story should be realistic enough to convince that the love is true blahblahblah, and that the scenes weren’t rushed.

Now for this book, the first part got me looking forward to what’s going to happen next. I still like their destiny-missed moments, it makes them really crave for more. But to say that they had fallen in love? After a one-night stand? Without any further interactions after?

No way.

The moment one character talked about falling in love and moving on, my interest in the book dwindles down.

There was the buildup of chemistry already – the sparks and the passion were there, all it took is to have an interaction between the two to build a relationship. Instead, the next time they see each other they were professing love and forever without actually making sure that there were more to them than just lust.

I’m sorry; I really loved the first part, but I find the last part absurd. I love romance but I want it to be realistic as well.

The ending, well, although I am expecting a HEA, I find it lacking, like the two needed to more scenes together than just spending 15% of the book in lust, 80% finding each other, and the 5% professing love. It’s not realistic enough for me.

I give this book a 3-star rating. I might read the first half of the book again, but when they start talking about love, well.
