“Tears are just another form of sweat.
They represent hard work and the body cleansing.”
To be honest, I had a hard time reading past the first chapter of this book. I finally sat down, determined to read it on Day 2, but was able to finish it only today. Let’s just say that this is one of those books which doesn’t start well or interesting enough, but you’ll be surprised at the lesson you’ll learn from it.
For the characters, I like all of them, though during the first chapters I didn’t like Eden. Later though her character grew and became more mature, thus making me liked her spirit and her resiliency. Xander, on the other hand, gets to be added automatically to the book-boyfriend list.
The plot is about an MMA teacher/fighter falling for a scarred but pretty girl, and though there are books written about a fighter falling for a naïve or simple girl, none of the scenes here seem cliché. The scenes are fresh and entertaining, especially the last chapters.
I can’t say I like the pace of the story, because there were chapters that didn’t catch my interest. Personally, I think there could be a more attention-grabbing way to begin the book, but I was glad I still decided to finish it through because the last 30% got me hooked.
Is there a need to say I love the ending? Ever since they became official every scene became more interesting. I especially loved the part where Xander answered ‘Lights Out’ trash talk.
Overall, the book is good, it gets better as the chapters go by, and I guess the moral lesson of the should be spread to a lot of readers.
4 stars.
