Review: Driven

K. Bromberg - Driven (Driven #1)

“Why is it that the sun seems to take forever to reach the horizon and the minute it gets there it sinks so fast?”

“It reflects life, don’t you think?” he asks.

“How so?”

“Sometimes our journeys in life seem to take forever to get to the culmination of our efforts—to achieving the goal. And once we do, it goes so fast and then it’s over.” He shrugs, surprising me with his introspection. “We forget that the journey is the best part. The reason for taking the ride. What we learn the most from.”

I’ve got mixed feelings with this book. I got a feeling I’ve read this book before, I just don’t remember, and since Goodreads doesn’t show any reviews for it by me, I decided to just go read it. I loved it, but there were points I didn’t like.

Honestly, I didn’t like it at first; the male lead seems too pushy, he’s bordering stalker. It doesn’t matter if he’s hot – his mouth was on a girl just minutes ago, and now he’s pushing the other girl that he wants her and he’s going to get her blah blah blah. Like dude, a no means no, no matter how awesome you look.

He was an ass at first, but I guess most alpha males are written to be arrogant jerks that would woe the girls in their own way. He kind of grew on me, but only until he switches his jerk button off. The minute it’s on, I find him annoying again. See, after that entire chase, he pushes her away again only to pull her back in. And this happened several times in the story, mind you.

With the female lead, though I’m proud that she can say no more than once, I can’t really blame her for eventually falling for him. I like how her character is stubborn and strong-willed and passionate.

I like the plot – though it’s the usual alpha male character, at least this one is a car race driver and not the businessman cliché type. I also like the pace of the story – there was the buildup of chemistry, and no scene seems rushed.

This book ends in a cliffhanger which will make you want to find out what’s next, so kudos to the write.

Overall, 4 stars.
