Disclaimer: I’m not really a fan of stories where the heroine has a dark past, not because it triggers something, but because I’m uncomfortable with too many dark emotions.
So the first part seems shady, there were a lot of inner commentary and Gwen trying to avoid connections. She had trust issues and try to be alone and independent as much as possible, though there’s this one person whom she ‘sort of’ trusts. I have to admit, the first part seems to slow for me.
When she met Colt, things are either too hot or too cold. I love their chase, though sometimes it gets pretty annoying (I think it’s just me because again, I am not a fan of a heroine who is consumed with guilt and all that), but once they finally did it – wow. Their intimate scenes were hot because, well, Colt. I think he makes up for the other parts of the story I didn’t really enjoy much (Again, this is just me, I personally don’t like scenes with guilty feelings).
Overall, though this is not my usual genre, it’s a pretty good book and I am excited on what might happen once the past caught up it Gwen.
3 stars.
