I loved the first book and was too excited to read the second and final book in the The First Witch series. It wasn’t like any paranormal / YA fantasy book I’ve read before. I’m sure it’s not even a YA because of the intimate scenes, but no complaints here as I’ve enjoyed them myself, lol. So this just picked up where the first book left off, with Freyja surrounded by angels who are going to bring her to the Dark Lord. Thankfully, there were no more (or maybe just less) moments where Ares is hell-bent on finding his mate. He’s now aware of the tension between the two (like hello, there were a lot of hot moments where it could get really fun and enjoyable between the two but he’s just too stubborn to let it happen) and he’s more showy when it comes to his feelings. Of course there was a part where he went berserk, but the rest of the book he remained hot and sweet.
“Don’t do this to me again,” he said in a shaky voice. “Two days ago, I had to watch the enemy’s blade cut into your skin. Today I watched you burn and could do nothing about it. I’d never felt so helpless and powerless.”
Freyja’s reasoning is something I don’t know if I enjoy or I find annoying. She was jealous of, well, herself, and Ares doesn’t even have a clue. But I like it when she finally admitted that she’s no damsel in distress (I even read that part twice, lol) and I love her interaction with Ventus and the rest of them. And that moment where she can see the imprint of what happened in the past while she and Ares were having an intimate, uhm, talk? Usually I find that weird, watching the people doing it just inches beside you doing the deed, but here I agree that it was pretty hot. There’s action, there’s cutesy romance, and there are those hot sweaty moments. Even the secondary or supporting characters were interesting to read. This book made me want to read the other books made my Meg Xuemei X, especially what happened before Freyja was born. I loved the books and will keep on reading and recommending it to everyone.
I was wild. I was free. I was fire and ice, and my Dragonian was the savage who made my blood flow in a rush.
